This page hosts requests for global permissions. To make a request, read the relevant policy (global rollback, global sysop, global rename, …) and make a request below. Explain why membership is needed for that group, and detail prior experience or qualifications.
This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.
Global rollback and global interface editor requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion while abuse filter helper and maintainer requests require no fewer than 7 days. Global renamer and global sysop requests require no fewer than 2 weeks of discussion. For requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, they may be closed by a steward without further discussion (after a reasonable amount of input).
Please note that Global rollbackers discussions are not votes. Comments must present specific points in favor of or against a user's approval.
Instructions for making a request
Before requesting, make sure that:
You have sufficient activity to meet the requirements to be allocated the global rollback flag
To make a request
Copy the template below to the bottom of this section and explain of why you need the access and why you're suitable.
=== Global rollback for {{subst:u|{{subst:REVISIONUSER}}}} ===
{{sr-request
|status = <!-- don't change this line -->
|domain = global <!-- don't change this line -->
|user name = {{subst:REVISIONUSER}} <!-- don't change this line unless you're nominating another user -->
}}
::''Not ending before {{subst:#time:j F Y H:i|+5 days}} UTC''
The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than 5 days (with rare exceptions, no matter how obvious the result may seem). This is not a vote, and all input is welcome. Stewards will determine whether consensus exists; when doing so it is likely that the weight given to the input of those involved in cross-wiki work will be most influential.

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than two weeks (no exceptions are allowed no matter how obvious the result may seem). This is not a vote, and all input is welcome. Stewards will determine whether consensus exists; when doing so it is likely that the weight given to the input of those involved in cross-wiki work will be most influential. Please note: Since 2019 all global sysops are required to have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled.
When you give someone global rename rights, please add them to the list of global renamers and ask them to subscribe to the global renamers' mailing list.

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than two weeks (no exceptions are allowed no matter how obvious the result may seem). While all input is welcome, there is a hard 80% support requirement for this role as per the global renamer policy.
Hi everyone. I'm Pminh141. I would like to help at local request for username change at viwiki, and therefore I’m requesting for the global renamer right. I am one of the Vietnamese Wikipedia eliminators and an active contributor to other projects. I have read and understand the rename policy. Thank you. Pminh141talk11:19, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support – from memory I think eliminator is very similar to sysop on viwiki? Either way they know what they're doing and that's what really matters for GREN. --SHB2000 (t • c) 10:39, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello all. I'm requesting global renamer rights, having recently noticed that the local username change request page on fiwiki - my home wiki - has had rather long wait times lately. As we only have one Finnish-speaking global renamer (who has been mainly inactive with less than 20 edits this year) and one Finnish-speaking steward, all it takes for wait times to grow is the two of them being inactive for a while or simply missing new requests. Lately, the wait times on the local page have been up to two or even six weeks for non-complicated requests, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to have an extra person there capable of doing renames. I am mainly active on fiwiki, where I've been an admin since 2016, an ArbCom member since 2018, and a bureucrat since 2019. Besides fiwiki, I do some occasional stuff on Commons and Wikidata. Also confirming I've reviewed the global rename and global renamers policy pages. --Lentokonefani (talk) 19:06, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions. Please review Global IP block exemption. You may request Global IP block exemption via stewardswikimedia.org if you can not edit this page.
Please note: Global IP block exemption does NOT make one immune to locally-created blocks of any sort, only global blocks.
If you want to edit the Chinese Wikipedia, usually global IP block exemptions will not help you. Please see this instruction to request a local IP block exemption.

{{sr-request

The request will be approved if there is demonstrated need for the permission, such as bypassing a global block from someone who is not the intended target.
The temporary exemption has expired, so I am contacting you again. I do not use a public proxy to edit, but because the IP address I use is a Sony IP address, Jon Korbert mistakenly globally blocked my IP address, so I cannot edit. The IP address I was using as a backup was also globally blocked for an unknown reason. No one will grant an IP exemption even if I explain this fact on Japanese Wikipedia, so I will apply for a permanent IP block exemption here. thanks, --Hayabusannnnnn (talk) 01:34, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
context: last request [1] + discussion on jawiki [2]. If the local project denied IPBE I honestly don't think we should circumvent their decision by providing global IPBE. --Johannnes89 (talk) 05:01, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm one of the sysops who was involved in the local IPBE request on jawiki. There, we concluded that HmaaRX is likely inadvertently connecting through a VPN, because of an external application (like a security software). The globally blocked IP that they mention was indeed a Vpngate VPN connection some months ago, but it's now not considered to be an open proxy (which frequently happens for Vpngate VPN), so how about unblocking the IP for now, as the block rationale is gone? If HmaaRX goes through another hard block issue after the unblock, that's their internet problem, and at the same time we'll be able to establish that we shouldn't grant IPBE. Dragoniez (talk)07:38, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Dragoniez so the user can self-solve their connection issue but not using VPN? Also, if jawiki wants this VPN used on jawiki, you can unblock that network on jawiki. — xaosfluxTalk09:35, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Xaosflux We believe so, and HmaaRX actually self-closed the discussion before trying to identify the software. So we still don't know why they have to use VPN, which is why we can't grant IPBE locally. Anyway, I've just whitelisted the IP on jawiki to test what I said above. I guess this request can be closed now, but if HmaaRX files a similar request again, then they ought to provide a rationale for having to use VPN. Dragoniez (talk)10:06, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions.

Hello! I would like to request AFH to be able to adapt private filters from other wikis. I have some local sysop rights and have created some abuse filters on Wikidata, Outreach, Wikitech, and Wikifunctions. It would also be helpful for keeping track of crosswiki vandals that have been stopped by private filters. From a technical point of view I already have access to these rights since they are part of the Ombuds rights. For obvious reasons I am not using my Ombuds rights for doing unrelated things like maintaining local abuse filters or fighting crosswiki LTA. I am also a global rollbacker and global sysop. Thanks, --Ameisenigel (talk) 15:17, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Since it's view-only I don't see too big of an issue with using the ombuds right for this (it's like stewards viewing deleted revisions as part of their local work; technically not in the scope of policy but the users are trusted enough for it to not be a problem), but asking the community first is always nice of course (and ombuds membership is only temporary), and as far as that is concerned I easily Support. ~~~~ User:1234qwer1234qwer4 (talk)23:34, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
While working on VRT requests I encounter abuse filter false positive reports sometimes. Access to the content of restricted filters would let me to identify whether the report is indeed a false positive and to help local admins to fix the filters (in projects where I do not have admin rights).
